Few people need introduction to ID Software and probably even fewer to Quake. Continuing the traditions of Wolfenstein 3d and the Doom series, Quake was practically the first FPP shooter that spanned into an online phenomenon. With open mod support and "QuakeWorld", its online engine, Quake was only succeeded by Valve's Half-Life in terms of on-line playability.

A lot of years later and three "normal" sequels, ID has decided to go free-to-play, on-line with the basic core of their game. Quake Live is based on Quake 3's engine and is launched directly from the player's browser. The idea is simple - find other players to shoot with and frag away.

The game is currently in open beta and has a very low system requirement as far as modern rigs go, so accessibility isn't a problem. Offering both windowed and full-screen modes and a competent and full configure option, downloading the in-browser plug-in that launches the game is a snap and it's easy to get into the shooting.
