Crafting is an integral part of the Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) gameplay, especially on the role-playing servers. Mastery of each of the tiers of crafting skills allows players to create items that are generally more effective than those bought from the in-game shops.

These items can be used personally, traded to other players or sold in the in-game auction house. This increases the personal interaction between players that is a key part of the Lord of the Rings Online multi-player role playing game (RPG), as well as providing the potential for keen crafters to earn extra 'money' as they ‘level up’ from one tier to another.
